Mayor Dan Reiman's Pianos in the Park program was created as a collaboration between the Borough of Carteret and Central Jersey Arts Council (CJAC).  The program was inspired by a similar program in Baton Rouge, Lousiana and is the first of its kind in New Jersey.

In May the Borough announced a design contest for the opportunity to win a chance to paint a refurbished, tunable piano.  Eleven concepts were selected by the Central Jersey Arts Council.  The pianos began trickling into the parks, upon their completion, in early August with the final piano being installed at the end of September.

The pianos will be stored indoors over the winter months and will be reinstalled in the parks for spring, summer and winter having been rotated to a different park.
